History of the textile sector in Bursa dates back to 1500 years ago. Being one of the most precious raw materials in the ancient times, silk had been first produced outside of China in Bursa in 550 AC. It has been the textile center of Turkey since the times of Ottoman Empire.

In Bursa, textile industry comprises of a wide product range. Cotton weaving, artificial and synthetic yarn production, woven fabric, knitted or woven pile fabrics production; home textile, ready-wear and apparel are leading sub-sectors of textile industry.
